Audi has announced details of a new turbo

Audi has extended details on the new four-cylinder gasoline engine with a turbocharger, which will be offered as a basic unit for the updated family A5. In the European market these machines can be ordered in September this year, but the first buyers will receive their cars by December. The volume of new motor is 1798 cubic centimeters, and the power and maximum torque of 170 horsepower (at 3,800 rpm) and 320 Nm (available in a range from 1400 to 3700 revolutions per minute), respectively. When paired with a manual transmission, this unit will allow Audi A5 coupe to accelerate to "hundreds" of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 230 kilometers per hour. Average fuel consumption is 5.7 liters per hundred kilometers, and the level of CO2 emissions do not exceed 134 grams per kilometer. In addition to direct fuel injection technology, the new engine is also equipped with a system of "indirect" injection - when the fuel is fed into the intake manifold and sprayed in the vicinity of the inlet valves, where it is intensively mixed with air. This technology is used for small loads on the engine, improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Compared with the previous engine of similar volume FSI injection pressure was increased from 150 to 200 bar and installed another turbine which develops pressure to 1.3 bar. The mass of the engine was reduced from 135 to 131.5 pounds: the pistons are now made of new high-strength alloy, lighter than steel cylinder head, crankcase is cast from gray iron by the new technology, which allowed to reduce the wall thickness of three millimeters, while the crankshaft is now being used four instead of eight counterweights. In addition, the pan is made of lightweight polymer materials, and screws - made of aluminum. Also got a completely new engine cooling system, and its friction losses were substantially reduced. Besides the new 1.8-liter unit, Audi A5 will also be offered with 211-horsepower two-liter gasoline engine and a three-liter "six" with a mechanical supercharger, which develops 272 horsepower. Automotive family A5 can be ordered and one of the four diesel engines, ranging from basic two-liter "quartet" capacity of 177 horsepower, to the top-six unit volume of three liters and the capacity of 245 horsepower.
