In wheel drive system uses an electronically new multi-plate clutch with hydraulic drive, which runs in an oil bath for better weight distribution and the axes is placed closer to the rear axle. In normal driving mode most of the torque is transferred to the front wheels, and if necessary of the thrust is thrown back. Audi has not specified what kind of engine installed on a test copy of a hatchback, as well as the timing did not name the emergence of such a vehicle in the series. Originally, the four-wheel drive will be equipped with the most powerful version Audi A1 - S1, whose premiere was held last year at the Motor Show in Paris. At this car show really showed the fastest to date version of the model with 185-horsepower 1.4 liter supercharged with a double. However, such a machine it was decided not to use the index S1, as is the only front wheel drive hatchback, and all machines with the letter S in the name traditionally equipped with all-wheel drive. Note that the presence of all-wheel drive transmissions for the compact model will allow Volkswagen Group to release the "charged" modification of a hatchback VW Polo - R, a version CrossPolo-drive all four wheels.
