Audi is planning in conjunction with the Japanese corporation to develop a highly Sanyo lithium-ion batteries that will be used in hybrid propulsion vehicles concern Volkswagen. As the German edition of Suddeutsche Zeitung, investment in this project will amount to about one billion euros. According to the publication, to develop a new generation of lithium-ion batteries take about two years. Now these batteries can provide a stable work only at temperatures from 25 to 40 degrees. In addition, they are less safe and more expensive than their nickel metal hydride counterparts. On the other hand, lithium batteries are more compact and can provide a greater margin for car travel. In what is planned for Volkswagen vehicles designed to use Sanyo batteries - not yet known. Earlier it was reported that the launch of hybrid versions of officially confirmed only for SUV Audi Q7 and VW Touareg, but in their power plants will be used not lithium and nickel metal hydride batteries. VW's own program to develop hybrid cars have been suspended because of the decision group chairman Martin Winterkorn (Martin Winterkorn). He found that the VW is better to concentrate on creating a more efficient and cleaner engines, as overpayment of two thousand euros for a hybrid version of the car too long.
